The race for the regular season title in the door County League got a little bit tighter Sunday as Kolberg beat Egg harbor and Sister Bay beat Washington Island. Maplewood also tightened up the race for the fourth and final playoff spot, moving a game back of West Jacksonport. Here are the details:
On AM 910 WDOR and wdor.com, Kolberg beat Egg Harbor, 3-2. Winning pitcher Riley Cordier (5-2) went the distance, allowing two runs on just three hits. Austin Rohe had a two-run double for Kolberg (8-2). Riley Spetz had an RBI double for Egg Harbor (10-2). Dave Jilot (4-1) took the loss, pitching the first seven innings.
Maplewood beat Baileys Harbor, 17-0. Chad Laluzerne, Kyle and Alex Ploor combined to throw a two-hit, shutout. Laluzerne (3-0) went the first five for the win. Al Karas had three hits and drove in three runs and Kordell Draves had three hits and drove in five. Mark Villers, Sam Koss, Chad Laluzerne, Collin Schubert and Tyler Wagner all had two hits as Maplewood (5-7) had 17 for the day. John Korden (0-1) took the loss for Baileys Harbor (0-11). The A’s committed eight errors.
Sister Bay beat Washington Island, 8-2. Up 2-1, Sister Bay (8-2) scored four times in the second. Sam Forkert (5-1) pitched the first six innings for the win. Forkert had four hits, Adam Biwer added three and Stuart Larsen and Matt Hecht each had two. Anthony Laughlin homered in the win. Washington Island (3-8) was held to just four hits. Wil Henricksen (2-5) took the loss.
Friday night, Institute beat West Jacksonport, 12-4. Kyle Volkmann (3-4) went the distance for the win. Aaron Larsen, Quin Schram, Brody Paschke and John Baudhuin all had two hits for Institute (4-6). Drew Tanck and Griffen Cole had three hits for West Jacksonport (6-6). Tanck (5-4) took the loss.
