Institute battled back from a 3-0 deficit to win on a walk off hit by pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning in a Door County League matchup Friday night. Baileys Harbor led the majority of the game, scoring once in the first inning when Derek Niedzwiecki doubled home Kyle Keehan, and twice in the 5th inning after hits by Nolan Wagner, Chad Kodanko & Lucky Stephenson. Institute was able to scratch a run across in the 6th inning when Kyle Volkman led off with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Cubs then tied the game in the bottom of the 9th without getting a hit. Will Hartman and Josh Paul earned back to back walks, Paul was forced out on a fielder’s choice, but Zach Christianson followed with a walk to load the bases. John Heimbecher walked to make it a 3-2 game before a wild pitch brought home the tying run. Kyle Volkman struck out the side in the 10th, then Institute struck in the bottom half, Volkman walked to lead off, Kirk Schleicher reached on an error, Will Hartman singled to load the bases and Josh Paul was hit by a pitch to bring in the winning run & make it 4-3 in favor of Institute.
Kyle Volkman went the distance for Institute, striking out 18. Brett Anschutz took the loss in relief of Amadee Savard who went the first 8.1 innings.
Kyle Volkman had two of Institute’s 5 hits. For Baileys Harbor, Lucky Stephenson, Derek Niedzwiecki, & Chad Kodanko all had 2 hits.
Institute Improves to 3-6 while Baileys Harbor drops to 0-10 on the season.
