Kolberg Locks Up Final Playoff Spot

Kolberg won a back-and-forth contest with Egg Harbor Sunday to lock up the final spot in the Door County League Playoffs.  Washington Island upset Sister Bay Sunday, Insttitute claimed the second seed in the playoffs by beating West Jacksonport Friday night and Maplewood beat Baileys Harbor.  Here’s the details on the final regular season Sunday in the Door County League:

Kolberg beat Egg Harbor, 7-5.  Kolberg (8-6) claimed the final spot in the Door County League playoffs.  Down 5-4, the Braves scored twice in the seventh to take the lead for good.  Austin Rohe had two hits and drove in two runs for Kolberg.  David Van Dreese (1-0) entered the game with two outs in the fifth and went the rest of the way for the win.  Brian Crooks had three hits to lead Egg Harbor (6-8).  Joe Sawyer and Eric DeJardine each added two.  Rob Schartner (3-3) took the loss in relief of Dave Jilot.

Washington Island beat Sister Bay, 9-6.  Washington Island (6-8) scored seven runs in the second inning and then held on for the season-ending win.  Craig Gunnlaugsson hit a three-run homer for the Islanders and Christian Foss (3 RBI), Matt Foss, Caleb Cornell, Aaron Delorit  and Troy Jorgenson all added two hits.  Jorgenson (5-6) started and picked up the win.  Mark Woerfel entered with one out in the sixth and earned the save.  John Woerfel had three hits (2 RBI) to lead Sister Bay (11-3).  Wil Henriksen (5-3) took the loss.

Maplewood beat Baileys Harbor, 5-2.  Maplewood (6-8) scored three runs in the first and never trailed.  Kyle Ploor had four hits and Allan Karas doubled and tripled for the Mets.  Mickey Le and John Price added two hits.  Calvin Falk (5-5) went the distance for the win.  Aaron Larsen and Brett Anschutz each had two hits for Baileys Harbor (1-13).  Anschutz (1-8) pitched the first five and took the loss.

Friday Night:
Institute beat West Jacksonport, 9-5.  Institute (10-4) scored twice in the first and three times in the second to pull away for the win.  The Cubs benefited from seven walks and six errors.  Kyle Volkmann had two hits to lead Institute.  Volkmann (9-4) went the distance for the win.  Ryan Tanck had three hits for West Jacksonport (8-6).  Drew Tanck (0-1) took the loss.
