The Gibraltar baseball team lost to Laconia in a Division 3 sectional semifinal at Markesan Tuesday morning, 3-1. The Vikings threatened throughout the contest. Gibraltar had a runner thrown out at the plate on a first inning wild pitch and left the bases loaded in the second. Trailing 1-0, the Vikings left a runner at third in the third inning. Then down three runs in the sixth, Gibraltar managed to score just one run after having the bases loaded and no one out. Andras Szakala’s walk in the sixth inning forced in Gibraltar’s lone run and was the first run allowed by Laconia in the postseason. Gibraltar starting pitcher Trevor Reinhardt allowed three runs on four hits in five and two-thirds innings. Ben Johnson had two hits and was on base three times.
Luxemburg-Casco lost a Division 2 semi-final to Fox Valley Lutheran, 4-2, in Chilton. The Spartans took a 2-1 lead in the 5th inning when Noah Lindsley hit a two run triple, but the Foxes answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to win the game.
