Egg Harbor is the only unbeaten team in the Door County League after four weeks. They handed West Jacksonport their first loss on Sunday while Sister Bay did the same to Kolberg. Maplewood picked up its first win while Institute evened their record as those two teams kept Washington Island and Baileys Harbor winless. Here’s the week four DCL recap:
On AM 910 WDOR and wdor.com, Egg Harbor beat West Jacksonport, 10-3. Egg Harbor (4-0) led 4-2 after three and added six runs in the sixth. Nick Kita (double), Riley Spetz, Eric DeJardine (4 RBI) and Joe Sawyer all had two hits. Dave Jilot (3-0) went the first six for the win. Drew Tanck (2-1) pitched into the third and took the loss for West Jacksonport (3-1).
Sister Bay slipped by Kolberg, 1-0. Ryan Demmin walked with two outs in the eleventh and moved to third on a James Larsen hit. Demmin would score the game’s only run on a wild pitch. Demmin (3-1) pitched all eleven innings for the shutout. He had 13 strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Austin Rohe had two hits for Kolberg (3-1). Riley Cordier (1-1) pitched the final four innings and took the loss.
Institute beat Baileys Harbor, 8-6. Institute (2-2) led 6-0 after four innings and 8-3 in the seventh. Josh Paul (1-0) pitched the first seven innings for the win and Kyle Volkmann finished for the save. Volkmann and Ryan Brungraber each had two hits to lead the Cubs. Amadee Savard, Lucas Stephenson and Kyle Keehan all had two hits for Baileys Harbor (0-4). Austin Kissel (0-1) took the loss.
Maplewood beat Washington Island 21-12. After Maplewood built an 8-3 lead, Washington Island scored seven runs to jump in front 10-8. However, the Mets would respond with ten runs to regain the lead for good. Maplewood (1-3) scored their 21 runs on 25 hits. Tyler Wagner had five hits, Al Karas (6 RBI) and Sam Koss each with four hits and John Price homered. Kyle Ploor (1-3) picked up the win in relief. Ben Geiger had five hits to lead Washington Island (0-4). Matt Foss and Troy Jorgenson both homered. Christian Foss (0-3) took the loss for the Islanders.
