The DCL kicked the weekend off early with a Friday night game between Egg Harbor & Baileys Harbor. Egg Harbor snapped Baileys Harbor’s win streak at 3, winning 16-2. The Indians were led by Cory Fuller who had 4 hits, scored 4 times & drove in 2. Jake Junion added 3 hits, & Eric Dejardine & Joe Sawyer had home runs for Egg Harbor.
Institute upset Washington Island to put an end to a 6 game losing streak Maplewood upset Kolberg, & Sister Bay held off West Jacksonport to lay claim to 3d place Sunday in the Door County Baseball League.
At Institute it was a closer game than the score shows, both teams scored twice in the first inning, the Islanders got 2 more in the second for a 4-2 lead before the Cubs rallied taking the lead 5-4 in the 5th inning. Owen Hubner made his first starting assignment a good one throwing a complete game for the win, Mark Woerfel was tagged with the loss. The Cubs beat the Islanders 10-5.
At Kolberg, the game was scoreless for 5 innings, then Maplewood scored 4 times in the 6th, Kolberg got 3 back, but would score no more and the Mets locked up the victory with 2 in the 7th and 3 more in the 8th to make the final score 9-3. Kyle Ploor went into the 6th for the win, Dave Neinas took the loss.
At Sister Bay West Jacksonport scored first, 1 in the first inning, Sister Bay came back on a 2 run home run by Justin Hartel to take a 2-1 lead, they added 2 more in the 3d, again Hartel provided the power with a 2 run double and the Bays won 8-5. Will Henriksen pitched a complete game in the hot humid weather for the win, Ryan Tanck took the loss. Hartel ended the day with 4 hits and 6 runs batted in. Stewart Larsen led the Ports with 3 hits and was on base 5 times.
