DNR Confirms Deer Deaths

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say thay have found 15 dead deer in a localized area near Forestville in Southern Door County.  Officials say that they were first alerted by a the land owner who was finding multiple dead deer on his property.  Most of the deer were fawns and after bone marrow testing it was determined that the animals died from starvation.  DNR Regional Wildlife Supervisor Jeff Pritzl explains….[audio:http://wdor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/jeff2.mp3|titles=Jeff Pritzl- What happened to the deer?]Pritlz added that the smaller deer are running out of body energy but that this could all change in a matter of days with warmer weather and green grass.  He also said that the lack of a consistent food source is only part of the problem….[audio:http://wdor.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/jeff1.mp3|titles=Jeff Pritzl- too many deer in the area.]Pritzl said that while it may be difficult tto consider because these animals died, this is really “natures way” of bringing the population back into balance.  You can hear our full interview with Jeff Pritzl at 8:30 Saturday Morning on Door County Outdoors.
