The Door County Baseball League opened up the season Sunday afternoon after weather postponed last week’s games.
Defending league champions Egg Harbor traveled to Baileys Harbor & beat the A’s 10 to 1. The Indians were led by Jake Junion who had 2 hits & 4 RBI, Dave Jilot, Eric Dejardin & Jason Fuller added 2 hits a piece. Dave Jilot got the win on the mound, Brett Anschutz took the loss for Baileys Harbor.
Washington Island beat Institute 4-1. Jack Rose had 4 hits for the Islanders, Caleb Cornell had 2 hits & Troy Jorgenson added a 2-run homerun in the 7th inning to put the game away. Jorgenson was also the winning pitcher going the first 8 innings. Ryan Brungraber & Adam Schartner both had 3 hits for the Cubs.
It was Kolberg over Maplewood 11 to 2. Greg Klaubauf had 4 hits & 2 RBI, Derek Ray, Chris Wery, Jeff Sperber & Bob Tenor all had 2 hits for the Braves. Alex Karas & Jason Shimon had 2 hits each for the Mets. Jeff Sperber got the win for Kolberg, Chad Laluzerne took the loss.
West Jacksonport knocked off Sister Bay 4 to 1. The Ports were led by Woody Schartner with his arm & bat. Schartner pitched a complete game & also hit a 2 run homerun in the first inning. Schartner was the only player with more than 1 hit in the game for either team. Will Henriksen took the loss for the Bays, he was relieved by Sam Forkert who struck out 12 in 5 innings of work.
