DCL Goes to Wood Bats

The Door County Baseball League, one of the few to still use aluminum bats has voted to switch to wood bats on a trial basis beginning next season.Talk of a change to wood bats in the DCL has gone on for years, but team representatives finally voted the measure through on a 5-2 vote with 1 team not present. Critics of aluminum batsĀ  in the league have cited the offensive numbers being put up, for example league champion Egg Harbor averaged over 11 runs per game this season. The wood bat skeptics argue that the move will hurt attendance & point out that home run numbers, at least the league leaders totals have remained relatively flat in recent years. The league will re-evaluate the matter after the 2013 season.
