DCL Celebrates Independence Day Weekend

There were Door County League games Friday, Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the Independence Day Weekend.  Kolberg beat Baileys Harbor Friday night.  West Jacksonport won at Washington Island Saturday afternoon.  And Sister Bay beat Institute and Egg Harbor edged Maplewood on Sunday.  Here are the details:

Sunday:
On AM 910 WDOR and wdor.com, Egg Harbor scored a run in the ninth to beat Maplewood, 4-3.  Jason Fuller singled, was sacrificed to second and scored on a Jake Junion hit to snap a 3-3 tie.  Fuller finished with three hits while Junion (2 RBI), Cory Fuller and Matt Ash all had two.  Ash (2-0) picked up the win in relief.  Down 3-0, Maplewood tied the game by batting around in the bottom of the seventh.  Al Karas, John Price and Kyle Ploor all had two hits for the Mets.  Karas (0-1) gave up the run in the ninth and took the loss.

Sister Bay pounded Institute, 16-3.  Down 3-0, Sister Bay scored twice in the third and then eight more times in the fourth.  Matt Hecht had four hits and fell a home run shy of the cycle.  Stuart Larsen had three hits and Tom Sawyer, Dusty Johnson and Sam Forkert all had two.  Ryan Demmin (7-0) went the first seven for the win.  Kyle Volkmann (3-5) started and took the loss for Institute.

Saturday:
West Jacksonport beat Washington Island, 7-3.  The Ports scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.  Griffin Cole, Jason and Jared Lindemann, Zach Defere (2 RBI) and Tanner Biwer all had two hits for West Jacksonport.  Biwer (5-2) went the distance for the win.  Christian Foss and Ray McDonald both had two hits for Washington Island.  Matt Foss (2-3) started and took the loss.

Friday:
Kolberg beat Baileys Harbor, 11-1.  Three Kolberg pitchers combined on a one-hitter.  Winning pitcher Riley Cordier (1-2) went the first seven.  Austin Rohe and Drew Klaubauf both had two hits.  Klaubauf had a bases loaded triple in the second inning.  Amadee Savard (0-4) pitched the first two innings and took the loss.
