Cuba City Dethrones Algoma

Cuba City beat defending champion Algoma 49-28 in the WIAA Division 4 State Championship game on Saturday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.  The Wolves last lead was at 15-13 with 4:48 to play in the first half, but the Cubans led 20-16 at the break and then held Algoma scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half and stretched the lead to 27-16.  Algoma would not get closer than 9 the rest of the game as the Wolves struggled from the field.  The Cuba City defense held the Wolves to 28% shooting for the game and Algoma made only 2 of 17 three point attempts.  Kennedy Blahnik led the Wolves (25-3) with 11 points and Anna Dier had 6 steals while Mollie Wedige (18 pts 13 rebs) and Jessi Marti (15 pts) led the Cubans.  It was the 10th State Championship for Cuba City (27-1).
