The four Door County League Baseball games Sunday were determined by nine total runs. That included a pair of 3-2 games, an extra inning affair and a shutout. Here are the results:
On AM 910 WDOR and wdor.com, West Jacksonport beat Kolberg, 5-2. After falling behind 2-0 after the top of the first, the Ports scored three times in the bottom half of the inning and never trailed. Griffin Cole tripled and scored in the first inning for West Jacksonport while Drew Tanck added a two-run single. Tanner Biwer (4-2) pitched the first eight innings and picked up the win. Tanck worked the ninth for the save. Nick LeCaptain had three hits for Kolberg, while David Van Dreese added two. Riley Cordier (0-2) pitched the first four innings and took the loss.
Washington Island blanked Baileys Harbor, 4-0. The Islanders took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning and then added a pair of runs in the seventh. Ray McDonald and Craig Gunnlaugsson hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning. Gunnlaugsson has hit three home runs the last two games and leads the league with four. Winning pitcher Matt Foss (2-2) pitched the first eight innings. Amadee Savard (0-3) went the distance and took the loss. Savard had two of Baileys Harbor’s four hits.
Sister Bay beat Maplewood in twelve innings, 3-2. Sister Bay scored the eventual winning run on a bases loaded walk to Wil Henricksen. Stuart Larsen and John Woerfel each had two hits to help Sister Bay stay undefeated. Henricksen (1-0) pitched the final four innings for the win. Al Karas had three hits and drove in two runs. Kyle Ploor had three hits and scored both of the Mets runs. Losing pitcher Michael Blizel (0-1) pitched an inning and two-thirds, before leaving with an arm injury.
Egg Harbor beat Institute, 3-2. Robbie Schartner’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth scored Jake Junion. Matt Ash had two hits and drove in two runs for Egg Harbor. Winning pitcher Dave Jilot (3-1) went the distance. Institute tied the game with two runs in the sixth. Cody Giesseman and Matt Petersilka both doubled in the loss. Kyle Volkmann (3-4) went all nine and took the loss.
