Northern Door improved to (2-1) at the Class “A” State Tournament at Richland Center after a 3-2 win over Nekoosa on Friday. The Chiefs jumped to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings then held off a furious Nekoosa rally for the win. Down a run in the 6th, Nekoosa had the bases loaded with nobody out. A failed suicide squeeze attempt and an inning ending strikeout from relief pitcher Riley Spetz got Northern Door out of the 6th, then Spetz started a game ending double play in the 7th for the win. Matt Hecht pitched the first 5 plus innings for the win, Spetz the final two for the save. Northern Door was held to only four hits. Spetz scored on an error after a first inning double, Austin Gulley scored on an RBI groundout from Tyler Hanusa, and Trevor Tanck stole home for the third run. Mark Sawyer says his team has showed well at the State….
