Northern Door improved to (2-1) at the Class “A” State Tournament at Richland Center after a 3-2 win over Nekoosa on Friday. The Chiefs jumped to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings then held off a furious Nekoosa rally for the win. Down a run in the 6th, Nekoosa had the bases loaded with nobody out. A failed suicide squeeze attempt and an inning ending strikeout from relief pitcher Riley Spetz got Northern Door out of the 6th, then Spetz started a game ending double play in the 7th for the win. Matt Hecht pitched the first 5 plus innings for the win, Spetz the final two for the save. Northern Door was held to only four hits. Spetz scored on an error after a first inning double, Austin Gulley scored on an RBI groundout from Tyler Hanusa, and Trevor Tanck stole home for the third run.
