Bays Win Thriller, Hecht Fires No-Hitter

Sturgeon Bay beat Kewaunee County 8-7 in 9 innings at the “AA” Legion Baseball Regional in Luxemburg on Friday night.  Sturgeon Bay opened a 6-0 lead after 2 innings only to see the Lakers tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the 4th inning.  The Bays won the game when the Kewaunee County right fielder dropped a routine flyball that allowed Riley Schartner to score the winning run.  Schartner doubled, homered and scored 3 runs while Mitchel Neubauer also had 2 hits.  David Van Dreese, who followed Ryan Nelson and Schartner, picked up the win with three innings of scoreless relief.  Dan Dorner and Caleb Willems had 2 hits for Kewaunee County.  Willems was saddled with the loss despite retiring 15 in a row at one point in the game.  Pulaski beat Oconto Falls 1-0 in the opener.

In Institute, Northern Door beat Omro 10-0 behind a no-hitter from Matt Hecht at the “A” Regional.  The right hander was a walk away from a perfect game on Friday.  Denmark eliminated Oconto 10-3 and Wrightstown beat Chilton 5-1.
