Sam Forkert pitched a complete game and Tom Sawyer had two hits as Sister Bay beat Washington Island, 5-2, for the Door County League playoff championship on Sunday in Sister Bay. The Bays took the early lead as Sawyer and Griffin Cole had first inning RBI’s and it was 3-0 after two as Sister Bay added an unearned run. Sawyer Johnson and Forkert drove in runs in the 5th inning as the Bays extended to a 5-0 advantage. The Islanders finally scored in the top of the 9th inning as Ben Geiger and Troy Jorgenson drove in runs, but Cole threw out Geiger at home plate as the Bays won their first playoff title since 2019. Forkert, who was voted at the DCL pitcher of the year, retired 11 batters in a row early in the game and another 10 in a row in the late innings. Matt Foss had two hits for Washington Island.
