Bays Sweep Regional For Third Straight State Trip

Sturgeon Bay beat Kewaunee County 5-2 on Sunday to win the Class AA regional at Memorial Field.  The Lakers took the early lead with two runs in the top of the 1st innings on RBI singles by Caleb Willems and Jake Thyes but the Bays answered with a two run double by David Van Dreese.  Riley Cordier and Logan Joniaux settled in and pitched three scoreless innings before Sturgeon Bay took the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning on an Austin Rohe single that scored Jason Lindemann.  Van Dreese added another 2-run double in the 6th for the final runs of the game.  Lindemann had 3 hits while Van Dreese and Rohe added 2 each.  Sturgeon Bay will open the State Tournament in Baraboo against River Falls at 1:30 on Friday on 93.9FM / wdor.com

 Saturday
SB scored 7 runs in the top of the 1st inning on their way to a 12-0 (5 inning) win over KC.  Austin Rohe pitched a four hit shutout for the win.  Casey Giesseman had a grand slam and Lucas Stephenson had 3 hits and 3 RBI while Van Dreese added 2 hits.  Six different players drove in runs for the Bays.  Cole Kirchman had 2 hits for the Lakers.

SB beat Pulaski 4-0 as Lucas Stephenson fired another four hit shutout.  The Bays scored in the top of the 1st inning as Mike Larsen scored on a Van Dreese RBI groundout.  The Bays then added 3 runs in the 6th inning as Keith Lehmann had a 2 out RBI single and Giesseman followed with a 2-run single.  Lehmann finished with 2 hits.
