Baileys Harbor picked up its first win of the 2014 Door County League season and in the process prevented Sister Bay from clinching the regular season title. Institute won Friday night and is now alone in second place as the Cubs beat Kolberg and West Jacksonport also lost. Egg Harbor got back to .500 with a win over Washington Island. Here are the week 12 results:
Baileys Harbor beat Sister Bay, 3-1. Baileys Harbor (1-11) scored twice in the top of the eighth to snap a 1-1 tie. Derek Niedzwiecki had an RBI double to give Baileys Harbor the lead and then Neil Dunkel added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly. Brett Anschutz (1-7) went the distance for the win. Matt Hecht and Sam Forkert each had two hits in the contest for Sister Bay (10-2). Forkert left the game with an injury in the sixth inning. Wil Henricksen (4-2) relieved him and took the loss. Sister Bay has a two game lead with two games to play.
Maplewood beat West Jacksonport, 10-2. Maplewood (5-7) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. The Mets then added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth when heavy rain halted the contest. Chad LaLuzerne homered for Maplewood and Mickey Le and Kyle Ploor each added two hits and drove in two runs. Calvin Falk (4-4) pitched all six for the win. Mike Stoneman had a pair of doubles and Woody Schartner added two hits for West Jacksonport (7-5). Alec Schartner (0-1) pitched into the fourth and took the loss.
Egg Harbor beat Washington Island, 6-5. Egg Harbor (6-6) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth on a Nick Kita sacrifice fly to snap a 5-5 tie. A two-run home run by Matt Ash had tied the game in the seventh. Eric DeJardine had two doubles and drove in two runs and Jake Junion and Dave Jilot each added two hits. Rob Schartner (3-2) picked up the win in relief. Troy Jorgenson had three hits for Washington Island (4-8). Christian Foss, Craig Gunnlaugsson and Luc Rose all added two hits in the loss. Jorgenson (3-6) went the distance and took the loss.
Friday night:
Institute beat Kolberg, 4-3. Institute (8-4) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for good. Ryan Brungraber had 3 hits to lead the Cubs, Matt Petersilka and Kyle Volkmann had two hits each for the Cubs. Volkmann (6-4) went the distance for the win. Chris Wery had two hits including a home run for Kolberg (7-5). Jeff Sperber (0-1) took the loss in relief.
