The Sturgeon Bay 13 and 14 year old All-Star teams went (1-1) this weekend.
In Eau Claire, the 14’s lost to defending State Champion Janesville 9-2 on Saturday. Cooper Nellis and Ryan Jackson had two hits for Sturgeon Bay. Devin McCarty had the only other hit for Sturgeon Bay.
On Sunday, Sturgeon Bay beat Marinette 6-5 in 8 innings with Cooper Nellis getting the win in relief of Bubba Laughlin. Austin Lardinois (2 doubles) and Ryan Jackson had 3 hits and Jared Lindemann had 2 hits. Down 5-4 in the 6th inning, Sturgeon Bay tied the game on a Lardinois double then won the game in the 8th when Michael Larsen’s double scored Quin Schram. Sturgeon Bay will play Northwoods (Rhinelander) at 10am Monday.
The 13’s went (1-1) in Green Bay this weekend. Saturday, Sturgeon Bay lost to Stevens Point 7-4. Sturgeon Bay was done in by a five-run, fifth inning. Casey Weddig had three hits, including two doubles, and Austin Claflin added two hits.
On Sunday, Sturgeon Bay avoided elimination by rallying past Green Bay, 6-4. Jeffrey Alberts and Casey Weddig both had two-out singles with the bases loaded to lead a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. Weddig and Isaiah Spetz both had two hits. Alberts pitched two innings of relief for the win. The 13’s will play at 10:30 AM Monday.
