A’s, Mets, Bays, Indians All Winners in DCL

Baileys Harbor earned their first win of the season, Maplewood knocked off Washington Island, Egg Harbor shut out West Jacksonport, and Sister Bay survived a scare in Kolberg Sunday in the Door County Baseball League.

On Friday night Baileys Harbor beat Institute 19 to 8. The A’s were led by Derek Niedzwiecki who was the winning pitcher, had 2 hits, 4 RBI and a 3 run homerun. Lucky Stephenson had 4 hits, and Aaron Larson had 3 hits. Institute had an early lead but Baileys Harbor scored 7 times in the 4th and added 9 runs in the 8th to pull away from the Cubs.

Maplewood went to Washington Island Sunday and came home with a win, 7 to 5 over the Islanders. Nick Brauer pitched 8 innings for the win and had 2 hits at the plate. Maplewood took a 2-1 lead in the 6th and added 5 runs in the 8th to seal the win.

At Kolberg, the Braves battled from behind against Sister Bay, scoring 7 times in the 7th and 8th innings to tie the game at 8 heading into the 9th inning. Sam Forkert saved the day for the Bays, hitting a solo homerun that proved to be the difference in a 9-8 win. Forkert was the winning pitcher and had 3 hits. Tom Sawyer had 5 hits for Sister Bay including 2 doubles. Kolberg was led by Nick LeCaptain who had 4 hits.

Egg Harbor shut out West Jacksonport 4 to 0 Sunday. Nick Kita and Casey Giesseman had 2 hits each, Jake Junion hit a 2 run homerun in the 8th for Egg Harbor. Alex Byrne earned the win on the mound with relief from Riley Spetz.
