The Door County Baseball League kicked off it’s Fourth of July weekend schedule with a Friday night game in Institute. It was Baileys Harbor(2-7) beating Institute(2-6) 10-0. The A’s jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three run home run by Brett Anschutz & never looked back. Anschutz pitched the complete game shutout, striking out eleven Cubs. Paul Nelson had 3 hits, Anschutz had 2 hits & 4 RBI, Pat Larsen & Griffin Cole added 2 hits each for Baileys Harbor.
On Sunday, it was Washington Island(5-4) beating Maplewood(3-5) 9-3. The Islanders jumped on the Mets with four runs in the 2nd inning, Maplewood got 2 back in the bottom of the frame, but the Islanders added another run in the 4th, & batted around in the 7th to put the game away. Mark Woerfel got the win, & Troy Jorgenson the 3 inning save. Matt Foss & Matt Grandy had 4 hits apiece & Jack Rose hit a 3 run home run for the Islanders.
Egg Harbor(9-0) stayed undefeated by taking down West Jacksonport(1-8), 15-1. Rob Schartner improves to 9-0 with the win, Matt Ash had a first inning grand slam to get things started for Egg Harbor, Jake Junion added 5 RBI, & Riley Spetz reached base 5 times on the day. West Jacksonport’s lone run came on a Steve Jilot 9th inning home run.
Sister Bay(6-3) pulled within a game of 2nd place by beating Kolberg(7-2) 11-9. Kolberg had a 4-1 lead going into the 4th inning, but Sister Bay added 4 in the 4th on a Tucker Emerson solo home run & a John Worfel 3 run shot, 4 more in the 5th on a Justin Hartl grand slam, & single runs in the 6th & 7th innings to pull ahead 11-7. Kolberg put 2 more runs on the board in the 8th inning, but Sam Forkert closed the game out to seal the win for the Bays. Chris Wery had a 3 run home run & Jeff Sperber had 3RBI in the loss for the Braves.
Next week’s schedule begins with a Saturday afternoon game with Egg Harbor at Kolberg, on Sunday, it’s Institute at West Jacksonport, Sister Bay at Washington Island, & Baileys Harbor at Maplewood. All games begin at 1:30PM.
