2018 Door County League Season Underway

The Door County League opened its 2018 season with a game Saturday and three on Sunday.  Institute, Sister Bay, Washington Island and West Jacksonport all earned wins.  Here are the details:

On AM 910 WDOR and wdor.com, Eddy Allen began his 51st season as the voice of the DCL as Sister Bay beat Baileys Harbor, 17-0.  Sister Bay scored in every inning but the fifth.  Bubba Laughlin had three hits including a double while Tom Sawyer had two hits with three RBI and three runs scored.  Sam Forkert and Matt Hecht combined on a four-hit shutout.  Lucky Stephenson took the loss for Baileys Harbor.

Washington Island beat Egg Harbor, 10-6.  No one for the Islanders had multiple hits but they were able to use walks and wild pitches to rally for the win.  Trailing 6-1, Washington Island scored nine times on three hits, seven walks and an error in the bottom of the eighth.  Troy Jorgenson pitched three innings of relief for the win.  Cody Giesseman and Matt Ash each had three hits for Egg Harbor.  Eric DeJardin took the loss in relief.

West Jacksonport beat Maplewood, 6-2.  Riley Cordier earned the win for the Ports.  He and Griffin Cole each had two hits and Drew Tanck, David Van Dreese and Woody Schartner all doubled.  Nick Brauer took the loss for the Mets.

Institute beat Kolberg Saturday, 9-4.  Institute broke open a close game with six runs in the top of the ninth.  Kyle Volkman, Matt Petersilka and John Heimbecher all had two hits for the Cubs and Josh Paul and Kyle Volkman both pitched for Institute while Ernie Erickson took the loss for Kolberg.
