The approval of the creation of a tax incremental finance district encompassing Sturgeon Bay’s westside waterfront is only part of recent activity related to the proposed development. According to minutes from the March 18th meeting of the Waterfront Redevelopment Authority, the city has been awarded a $45,000 site assessment grant. Since the first phase of site assessment has been completed, the grant is expected to be used for phase two expenses & remediation activities. Requests for proposals have been sent to several engineering firms. Sturgeon Bay was also recommended for a coastal management grant. The committee was told that the city’s consultant, Vandewalle & Associates, is actively trying to recruit developers. Discussions continue regarding a brew pub & restaurant, a potential master developer has been identified, & a letter of interest has been submitted regarding the granary market. It was also noted that the Door County Maritime Museum has begun to move on fundraising for a proposed observation tower. The estimated cost is $2.5 million.
