A consultant for environmental work related to the west side waterfront redevelopment project & a contractor for Sawyer Park improvements & the walkway extension were selected during the meeting of the Sturgeon Bay City Council Tuesday evening. The council agreed to hire Ayres & Associates to do the planning for the former Door County Cooperative property & the adjoining waterfront parcel previously leased by the US Coast Guard. Ayres will be paid up to $54,800 to make a hazardous materials assessment, demolition specifications & permitting, & inspection services during demolition of buildings. The firm will also work with the DNR, providing environmental assessment planning & a remedial action plan for any cleanup needed at the site. A grant will cover half of the consulting fee & the rest is eligible for funding through the new tax incremental finance district.
AG Excavating, Incorporated was tabbed to complete Sawyer Park improvements & the walkway extension at a cost of $145,455.90. The plan includes a concrete walkway through the park, around the coast guard area & under the Oregon Street bridge. Access sidewalks & park improvements including lighting, grading & drainage components will also be completed. A grant of up to $99,650 will cover part of the cost of the project which is slated to begin in May.
