Another committee has taken action on the matter of a hotel on Sturgeon Bay’s west side waterfront. On a vote of four to one, the city waterfront design review board Tuesday approved the design for the lodging facility proposed for the former Door County Cooperative property. Committee chairman Bill Galligan was joined by James Goodwin, Eric Paulson and Dennis Statz in approving the design. Committee-member Shelly Kerwin-Phelps voted no. From the beginning the committee stressed that it was only interested in the way the structure looked, not any other considerations. In fact, Dennis Statz, who voted against the proposal as a member of the city plan committee, voted with the majority this time around. With a recommendation from the plan commission and the design review board’s vote on the books, the city council, which has the final say on the hotel plan, is expected to consider the hotel as part of a planned unit development on the waterfront when it meets on Tuesday.
