We recently reported in our state news how republican gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels is being challenged by a voter who says only 345 of of his required 2,000 signatures are valid due to an error on the header of several pages of signatures. Now, we have learned of another challenge to the required signatures of a local candidate. Libertarian candidate for US Representative for the 8th Congressional District Jacob Vandenplas of Forestville was notified recently that his required signatures are now being challenged by a Waukesha resident. Vanderplas and independent candidate Paul Boucher are both running against incumbent Rep. Mike Gallager. Now Vandenplas has the option of responding to the challenge during this Friday’s Election Commission meeting. He says it’s rather short notice for his campaign to respond, but they will be ready by Friday………
Forestville Village President Terry McNulty helped Vandenplas gather signatures in the village, and he says Vandenplas has already been certified by the election commission and is on the ballot………
Public records show that the challenge to the Vandenplas nomination was filed by a Waukesha resident who was recently paid almost $15,000 by the Republican Party of Wisconsin. These challenges should be settled one way or the other this Friday when the Wisconsin Election Commission certifies the names that will appear on the August ballot.
