The U.S.D.A. would like to remind the farmers in our listening area that you can still sign up for disaster assistance. Payments have already started for those farmers impacted by excessive moisture. Through the “Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program”, farmers who suffered eligible losses because of excessive moisture or drought in 2018 and 2019 can still apply for assistance. Sandy Chalmers of Wisconsin’s Farm Service Agency says they want producers to know that staff in local service centers are available by phone or email to help with your application. In addition to recently added eligible losses of drought and too much precipitation, there is now a provision for crop quality loss resulting in price deductions or penalties, when marketing crops damaged by eligible disaster events. You can reach the Door County Farm Service Agency office by calling 743-3595.
