Two elected officials on Washington Island have decided not to seek re-election in 2015. Town Board Chairman Joel Gunnlaugsson says his name will not be on the ballot for the April election. Gunnlaugsson won a write-in candidacy as Town Chairman in 2011 and was re-elected last year. He also represents the 21st Supervisory District on the Door County Board. That position encompasses a ward in the Town of Liberty Grove and Washington Island. Meanwhile, Noel Ryder will be on the ballot for Town Chairman in April. Gunnlaugsson says he wants to spend more time taking part in family activities.
A six year veteran of the Washington Island Board of Education is also calling it quits. Lisa Munao, who is currently President of the School Board, says, after considering work and other responsibilities, she decided it was time to move on.
Candidates for elective positions have until January 6th to file nomination papers. The spring election will be held on April 7th.
