Triathlon Will Mean Heavy Bicycle Traffic Sunday

A large number of bicyclists are expected to be traveling through Sturgeon Bay Sunday as part of the Door County Triathlon headquartered near Egg Harbor. Motorists will see a high concentration of bike-riders between 9AM & 11AM on 3rd Avenue downtown & along Memorial Drive as they head to Cove Road, Canal Road & Buffalo Ridge. After traveling into the Institute area, the bicyclists will turn around & retrace their route back into Sturgeon Bay. Between 10AM & 1PM, drivers could encounter bicyclists along Memorial Drive & 18th Avenue as they head in either direction. Sturgeon Bay police officers will be joined by community service officers to provide traffic control. Volunteers will also be located along the route to insure that bikes & automobiles share the road. The bottom line, motorists will have to take into account that some sections of Sturgeon Bay will be busy with bicycle traffic on Sunday.
