A large tractor, valued at about $175,000 was destroyed in a fire Thursday evening in the Town of Forestville. The tractor, owned by S&S Ag Enterprises LLC of 7900 Old Elm Road, was being checked out in a field between Old Elm Road & Maplewood Road when the fire was discovered shortly after 6PM. The operator told the Southern Door Fire Department that he was towing a large farm roller in the field when he noticed that the tractor tires were wet. In an effort to determine what was causing the problem, the operator drove to the top of a hill. However, when he got there, he noticed flames shooting out of the right side of the unit. The man was able to scramble away from the burning tractor before it became fully engulfed in flames. Southern Door firefighters used a combination of water & foam to extinguish the blaze. They also helped push the burned out hulk onto a trailer. The cause of the tractor fire is still under investigation. The last units were back at the station at about 9PM Thursday.
