Texas Man Sentenced in Sex Sting Case

Forty one year old Steffen Kraus of The Colony, Texas, who was arrested in Door County as part of a regional sex sting, was sentenced to 15 months in prison & 10 years of extended supervision in Door County Circuit Court Tuesday on one count of child enticement. Judge D. Todd Ehlers fined him $2,500 & costs & told him to comply with any recommended counseling, evaluations, assessments or programs. Kraus must also enroll in the sex offender’s registry & avoid contact with juveniles. One count of using a computer to facilitate a sex crime was dismissed. Kraus, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was arrested on October 12th after he contacted what he thought was a 15 year old girl on Craigslist & arranged a meeting with her for the purposes of sex. When he arrived in the area, Kraus was greeted by a police officer who was taking part in the multi-jurisdictional sex sting being coordinated in Door County by investigator Jim Valley.
