Gibraltar area school Superintendent Tina Van Meer recently announced her forthcoming retirement at Monday night’s school board meeting. With just over 10 years in that position, she has certainly seen a lot of changes in that district. She recently shared with us what her first year was like and how she utilized some difficult tasks to help improve the district……

Van Meer has a long list of accomplishments at Gibraltar, such as the implementation of a 5K multi-age program, the forthcoming 4K preschool pilot program, being ranked in the top 5% of state school districts, the earning of 4 “Title 1 School of Recognition” awards and being named a “National Blue Ribbon School” at the elementary level, as well as being ranked in the top percentages for elementary, middle, and high school levels by “World News and Report”. When asked about her fondest memory of her tenure at Gibraltar, she recalled the senior citizen holiday meal and concert……

One aspect of her time in the district which she is very proud of is how the financial stability of the schools has continued through very rough times……….

Van Meer’s retirement will begin at the end of June, and she is looking forward to returning to southern Wisconsin to spend more time with family and prepare for her next chapter of life.
