Sturgeon Bay Police Warn Residents of Phone Scams

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department is asking residents who are interested in donating to causes supported by law enforcement to make the donation locally and not to a group calling itself “The Police Protective Fund.” A citizen who received a call from the fundraising group contacted city police late last week. He was told the call was a scam using a legitimate phone number from outside the area to disguise the phone call. If you receive this type of call do not give out any personal information and hang up. The Sturgeon Bay Police Department also reminds the public to avoid giving out sensitive information over the phone unless you are positive you know that the person you’re talking to is legitimate. Also, don’t hesitate to contact local authorities if you have any questions or concerns over phone calls you may have received.
