Sturgeon Bay Applies for DNR Grant for Goose Control

The effort to rid Sturgeon Bay of nuisance geese will continue now that the city council has approved the application for grant funding through the Department of Natural Resources. Since September, the city parks and recreation department has been researching ways to reduce the number of geese and prevent damage caused by the birds along the waters of Sturgeon Bay. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has suggested egg oiling and goose roundups and estimated the costs related to an abatement program at about $7,400. The DNR grant, if approved, would pay half of the costs involved. Staff had recommended that the city apply for the DNR grant funding.
