Street Light Removal Moves Forward

Sturgeon Bay Utilities is moving ahead with streetlight removals based on the list recently approved by the city council. Electric supervisor Jason Bieri says residents have the option of taking ownership in some of the lights slated to be removed if they are not located on a wooden street light pole needing removal due to age. Interested customers can take responsibility for the light fixtures & arms free of charge, but must agree to an annual fee of approximately $105. The separate energy bills will be added to their monthly utility bill as a separate line item. The customer must also agree to pay for future material costs including lamp & eye replacements. Citizen requests to take ownership of a street light must be filed with Sturgeon Bay Utilities by Wednesday, October 17th. Following that date, customers would have to pay labor charges for the re-installation of the light fixture.
