A fast moving storm packing high winds & heavy rain blew through the door peninsula during the early afternoon hours Friday, knocking down trees & causing power outages. In the aftermath of the storm, crews from the Door County Highway Department & area fire departments were mobilized to deal with downed trees. Sturgeon Bay Utilities reported no electrical disruptions, but, at about 2:30PM, Wisconsin Public Service was saying 672 of its Door County customers were without power. The largest group, some 549 customers, was located near Sturgeon Bay, part of three separate outages. Other WPS customers were found near Fish Creek, Ellison Bay & Baileys Harbor. It was noted that some WPS customers in the Clark Lake area were also affected. WPS linemen were dispatched to the trouble spots & customers were warned to be very careful if they come upon downed lines.
