Christopher McNulty, the 40 year old Door County man accused of holding local law enforcement at bay during a seven hour standoff in Sturgeon Bay in which shots were fired, made an initial court appearance in Door County circuit court Wednesday. McNulty faces five felony & two misdemeanor counts including attempted first degree intentional homicide, second degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon, failure to comply with an officer, criminal damage through use of a dangerous weapon, & operating a firearm while intoxicated. The time period for a preliminary hearing was waived & bail was continued at $25,000 cash. McNulty remains in Door County jail, his next court appearance is Friday, September 9th at 1:45PM.
The incident happened August 1st, when Sturgeon Bay Police were sent to a welfare check to a home on North Duluth Avenue. They were greeted by gunfire. No one was injured. At about 11:15PM that night, SWAT broke down the front door to the home & McNulty was taken into custody without incident.
