Southern Door’s Jessica Meacham Named Rural Teacher of the Year

Southern Door elementary teacher Jessica Meacham has been selected as the Monsanto Fund national rural teacher of the year. Meacham, who has taught first grade at Southern Door for the past eight years, has a total of 17 years experience as an educator. She says teaching is her calling and remembers educating brothers and sisters at a very early age. She was praised for her ability to listen and develop a rapport with the children she encounters on a regular basis. Respected for her use of technology, Meacham’s classroom techniques have been used as a model for other school districts. She is also active in her community, serves as a Sunday school teacher and has made a commitment to meeting the broader needs of the school district. Meacham will receive the award at the 106th National Rural Education Convention and Research Seminar on October 17th in San Antonio, Texas. She will receive a $2,000 award and Southern Door Elementary School will receive $1,000.
