Sister Bay Highway Project

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has been asked to re-route a section of Highway 57 in Sister Bay as a result of action taken by the Village Board. The DOT presented trustees with two options for dealing with access to the highway. The board, on a vote of four to three, chose the option that would move the roadway to a spot south of the Visitor Center so it meets the road at the top of the hill. The DOT also proposed to lower the hill at the point where the highway meets. Motorists have long complained that the steepness of the hill made driving difficult during the winter months. The option, while not perfect, will lower the grade of the hill. That portion of the project is expected to lead to lane closures on Highway 42. With Sister Bay Village Trustees on board, the DOT hopes to begin work in May of 2014 & could have the road work completed by the summer of 2015.
