The Sidewalk on the Bayview Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will be closed beginning on Tuesday. The Green Bay office of the DOT says the sidewalk will be closed from 7AM – 4pm, Monday through Friday. The closure will remain in effect until the Door County snowmobile trails open, since the sidewalk is the snowmobile connection to trails south of the ship canal.
The closure is needed for electrical work taking place on the bridge. That work is part of a $4,800,00 project which also includes structural steel repair, bridge painting, electrical and machinery updates, and an overlay of the bridge deck and approaches. The project is intended to extend the life of the structure.
The bypass bridge remains open until March when it will be closed with traffic being detoured through the City of Sturgeon Bay. The bridge closing and detour routes will be announced at a later date.
The Bayview Bridge was opened in 1978 and its last major repairs were done in 2004.
