Shops Re-Open After Partial Building Collapse

Stores that had been shut down on the west side of Sturgeon Bay because of falling debris from a collapsed roof will be open for business Saturday. Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Tim Herlache agreed to lift the closure order after consulting with an engineer who indicated that debris had been removed from the building at 14 South Madison Avenue and further incidents should no longer be a concern. Herlache sought the order after another segment of the room that collapsed on January 4th tumbled down on Monday morning. No one was injured, but the Bayside Bargains shop sustained structural damage in the second cave in. It could be some time before repairs are affected. As part of the action lifting the closure order, utilities that had been shut down are now operational.
