The storm system that caused the recent heavy rains in Door County is long gone, but its impact continues to bedevil residents and visitors. Over the weekend, the Door County Sheriff’s Department closed down the north lane of Bayshore Drive, south of George Pinney County Park, after a sinkhole was discovered in the lane of traffic. A crew from the Door County Highway Department was brought in to make repairs. As reported before, many residents have been dealing with the aftermath of the flooding, especially residents in the Baileys Harbor area. Not only homes, but offices and businesses have been damaged by the water. The Door County Public Health Department is telling homeowners with wells in flooded areas to assume that their well has been contaminated. The wells will need to be checked and disinfected.
