Sevastopol House Fire Monday

A home in the Town of Sevastopol sustained about $5,000 damage in a fire Monday afternoon. It appears that ash from a wood burning stove, dumped outside, were blown into the siding of the home owned by Roger Opiela at 4437 Highway 57. The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department was paged out at 3:29pm and the first units on the scene found light smoke in the house. On closer inspection, they located the fire under the siding in a corner of the home. The siding was removed and 100 gallons of water used to knock down the flames. Fire crews also checked the attic to determine if the fire had spread, but could find no evidence of that scenario. In all, 7 vehicles and 26 firefighters were sent to the Opiela home. They returned to the station at about 4:50pm.
