Sturgeon Bay police officers and Door County deputies are completed their 4th month of participation in the 2012 Seatbelt High Visibility Enforcement deployment, funded through a grant from the Wisconsin Department Of Transportation’s Bureau Of Transportation Safety. In August, there were 7 deployments that covered 28 hours.
The results include 277 traffic stops, 215 traffic citations, and 150 warnings. Of the citations issued, 155 were for seatbelt violations, 16 for speeding, and 36 for miscellaneous violations. Of the traffic warnings, 96 were for speeding, 30 for miscellaneous violations, 14 for vehicle registration infractions, and 10 for vehicle equipment defects.
The program is being coordinated by Lieutenant Jeff Farley of the Door County Sheriff’s office and Sturgeon Bay Police Sergeant Chad Hougaard.
