Search For New Door County Parks Director

A search to find a replacement for the late George Pinney as Door County Parks Director will move forward as a result of action taken Thursday during a joint committee meeting at the Government Center in Sturgeon Bay. Pinney, who guided the day-to-day operation of the Parks Department for more than 17 years, died in September. An attempt was made to include the duties of the county park system under the umbrella of the highway department during the meeting involving the administrative, highway and airport and parks committees, but that idea was rejected. The next step in the process happens on Monday when the Administrative Committee considers the search proposal and sets a level of compensation. A job description for the position, developed last year, is ready to be used when the job search is launched.

Before he died, George Pinney was recognized for his ability to obtain funding and the expansion of the Door County Parks System under his direction. Olde Stone Quarry Park in the Town of Sevastopol was renamed in his honor.
