The search continues for a canoeist who has been missing since his canoe capsized in the waters off of Washington Island Sunday afternoon. The Door County Sheriff’s Department says two men from Illinois, ages 45 & 49, were in the canoe when it capsized shortly after 3:30PM. The older man was able to swim to shore, but his 45 year old companion stayed with the canoe. A friend called 911 & several vessels & a US Coast Guard Helicopter were used to search for the missing man, but, after about 3 hours, the search was called off due to darkness & weather conditions. The search resumed Monday & included the Washington Island fire boat & a Door County Sheriff’s Department dive team using sonar equipment.
