SBPD Switching from Sedans to SUVs

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department now has four Ford sport utility vehicles in its fleet, reflecting a trend away from sedans as police cruisers. Captain Dan Brinkman says space, comfort, load capacity and safety are four reasons why the department is going with the SUVs. Captain Brinkman says another capability was a consideration when planning was being done…

Brinkman says the amount of gear the modern police officer needs to do his or her job makes it unlikely that city police will go back to purchasing sedans for squad cars…

Captain Brinkman also notes that the SUVs are not much more expensive than the Crown Victoria was and the mileage is similar.
