SBPD Plans to Continue to Replace Squad Cars With SUVs

It appears that the Sturgeon Bay Police Department will continue to replace its aging squad cars with sport utility vehicles. The department is proposing to purchase two 2015 all-wheel drive Ford Explorer SUV’s at a cost of $30,275 per vehicle. The department budgeted $72,000 for the two new squads and the equipment needed to outfit them. About $6,000 could be realized from the sale of a 2007 and a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria. The Sturgeon Bay City Council is expected to act on the request at its meeting Tuesday afternoon. The police department fleet would then have four SUV interceptors available for officers.
