SBPD & DC Sheriff’s Department Seatbelt Enforcement

Sturgeon Bay Police & the Door County Sheriff’s Department have completed the third month of participation in the 2012 seat belt high visibility enforcement deployment. The program is made possible through a grant funded by the State Department of Transportation. Last month, there were six deployments that led to 246 traffic stops & the issuance of 168 traffic citations. Seatbelt violations topped the list at 113 citations, followed by 28 speeding tickets & 21 miscellaneous violations. A total of 132 traffic warnings were handed out in July, the vast majority(91) for speeding. Door County is one of four counties in the state & the only one in northeast Wisconsin to receive the pilot grant. The program is being coordinated locally by Seargant Chad Hougaard of the Sturgeon Bay Police Department & Lieutenant Jeff Farley of the Door County Sheriff’s Department.
