The Ridges Sanctuary, the first ever land trust in Wisconsin, will be honored for its outstanding work over the past 75 years by the Gathering Waters Conservancy, a statewide land conservation organization. The group based in Madison calls the founding of the environmental preserve near Baileys Harbor pivotal in the history of land conservation in Wisconsin, paving the way for future land conservation efforts. The Ridges is also being recognized for having a very active outreach to the public & for encouraging private & public stewardship in many innovative ways including the “No Family Left Inside” program, the “Wisconsin Naturalist” program, & the “Citizens Monitoring” program. The Gathering Waters Conservancy will bestow its land trust pioneer award on the Ridges Sanctuary at an awards banquet in Madison on October 4th.
