The first phase of the Michigan Street road project in Sturgeon Bay is done and was open for traffic during the evening hours Tuesday. City Engineer Tony Depies says pavement markings will not be installed until next week at the earliest. Depies says with rain in the forecast through Wednesday, work planned as part of phase two of the project will be put off until Thursday. Weather permitting, the job should be done by Friday. Depies says phase two will be from Sturgeon Bay High School up to, but not including, the intersection with 18th Avenue. When work begins, traffic will be detoured on South 12th to Rhode Island Street to South 18th. Buses will pick up and drop off students on North 12th Avenue, so motorists are advised to use caution in this area when children are present.
